Small Business PC

It's easy to buy too much PC for your office. Our guide steers you clear of features that can kick up the cost.

As any small-business owner can attest, the pressure to manage costs never lets up as you go about attempting to grow your business. Investing in office technology, however, is one area that need not spiral out of control—especially if, here in 2011, you’re outfitting yourself or a small workgroup with desktop PCs. For most everyday small-business needs, when buying desktop PCs today, you can stretch a tech dollar far enough to reach both sides of your desk.

Conversely, it’s also too easy to buy more desktop PC than you need these days. Even budget models are remarkably powerful, and while it’s never a bad thing to have a little processing overhead or a few connectors that you’re not sure you might need one day, those extras might tack a bit onto the price. Multiply that across 10 or 15 PCs, and it might add up to enough to buy a spare workstation or bigger monitors for everyone—or perhaps even save you a couple of grand.

In an effort to save your small business from overspending on its next desktop-PC buy, peruse this list first and use it as a filter the next time you're assessing PC configurations. Click through for the 10 items that most small-business PC buyers can do without...and save.
