Working with UW-Eau Claire Images and Graphics

he following document is designed to help you access images, graphics, and colors through the University on the Internet. When designing a web page for the University, you may want to include official UW-Eau Claire images or use University links for relevant and safe design choices.

In order to access University graphics and images, you must first enter the Web Development Tools page.

  1. Access the UW-Eau Claire homepage (http://www.uwec.edu)

  2. Click COMPUTING AND TECHNICAL RESOURCES (http://www.uwec.edu/info/it.htm)

  3. Under Other Technical Resources, click WEB DEVELOPMENT TOOLS (http://www.uwec.edu/Webdev)

NOTE: The following assumes that you have already read Accessing UW-Eau Claire Web Development Tools

To Access UW-Eau Claire Web Graphics:

  1. In the Web Development Tools page, from the list of options on the left, under the Standards & Design subheading, click UWEC WEB GRAPHICS (http://www.uwec.edu/Webdev/style/graphics.htm)
    In the UWEC Web Graphics page, after the introductory text, there will be a chart of common University graphics.

    NOTES:
    The yellow column on the left lists the name of each corresponding graphic.
    The white column shows each graphic and displays its HTML code.

NOTE: Before following these instructions, please read Accessing UW-Eau Claire Images and Graphics

  1. From the HTML code of the image you would like to insert, highlight the URL
    EXAMPLE: /Images/UWECWeb/uwec1.gif

  2. From the Edit menu, select Copy
    OR
    Press [Ctrl] + C

  3. Open Dreamweaver

  4. Set your insertion point where you want the image to appear

  5. From the Insert menu, select Image
    The Select Image Source dialog box appears.

  6. In the URL text box, type the UW-Eau Claire homepage address (http://www.uwec.edu)

  7. In the URL text box, after the UW-Eau Claire homepage address, paste the URL of the image by pressing [Ctrl] + V
    EXAMPLE:
    Your complete URL should look like this:
    http://www.uwec.edu/Images/UWECWeb/uwec1.gif

  8. Click OK
    NOTE:
    Since the image is not a part of your collection, it will display a missing image Missing Image Visual. To verify that the image will appear correctly, you can test your page using the browser Netscape or Internet Explorer.
