Creating Target Links
Target links are convenient,
timesaving aspects to add to your web page. Target links allow
instant connections to different sections within your page, as
well as to other pages in your collection. With Dreamweaver,
target links are very easy to create. In the following
sections, this document will offer instructions and hints for
creating and maintaining target links.
Linking
to a Section in the Current Document
Creating target links with Dreamweaver is a
two-step process: setting up an anchor
and linking to that anchor.
Setting an Anchor
The first step to creating a target link is
setting an anchor at the place you would like to link to.
-
Place the cursor before the
section you want to link to
-
From the Insert menu,
select Named Anchor…
OR
From the Insert pane, in the Common
tab, click NAMED ANCHOR

The Named Anchor dialog box appears.
-
In the Anchor Name
text box, type a name for the anchor
HINT:
Assigning meaningful names to
your anchors will make page maintenance easier. Spaces are
not recommended in anchor names.
-
Click OK
An anchor
appears next to your cursor.
Creating the Link
The second step of creating target links is
setting a link from one place in your page to the spot you
anchored. When using the dialog box, you can browse to locate
the anchor name. When using the Properties pane, you
must type the anchor name exactly.
-
Click where the link will appear
-
From the Insert menu, select
Hyperlink
OR
From the Insert pane, in the Common
tab, click HYPERLINK

-
In the Text text box, type the
text to be linked
-
From the Link pull-down list,
select an anchor in the current document
-
Click OK
Deleting
Anchors
As you modify your page, your anchors may
change. To keep your web page clean, you should remove any
old, unused anchors.
-
Select the anchor symbol
-
Press [Delete]
NOTE:
Be sure to remove any links which referred to this anchor.
