Tables-
Additional Options
Dreamweaver allows many formatting options with tables.
The basic table is not very exciting, but you can manipulate its elements to
create a greater impact. Some of these options include the following topics:
Applying
Color to Text
Table text can be any color. Colored text may, for
example, be used to make the text of a specific cell stand out. The
Color pull-down list provides 216 web-safe colors to choose from. You
can also create a custom color.
Applying a Standard Color to Text
-
Select the text you wish to color
The Text Properties Pane appears
-
In the Color text box, type the desired color
value
Example: #800000
OR
From the Color pull-down list
,
select the desired color
HINT:
To return your text to the default color (generally black), from the
Color pull-down list, click DEFAULT
COLOR

Applying a Custom Color to Text
-
Select the text you wish to color
The Text Properties Pane appears.
-
From the Color pull-down list
,

The Color dialog box appears.
-
In the Custom colors section, select an empty box
-
Using the color spectrum and gradient bar,
create a color
The color appears in the Color/Solid box.
HINTS:
If this box remains white,
adjust the thin gradient bar.
You may use the Hue, Sat, Lum, Red, Green, and
Blue text boxes to create a color by entering specific values. For
instruction on how to accomplish this, refer to
Selecting Colors by Values.
-
Click ADD TO CUSTOM COLORS
The empty box you selected now contains the new color.
-
Click OK
Inserting
a Table with a Caption
A caption is text that appears above or
below a table. The purpose of table captions is similar to the purpose of
most picture captions—they
explain or clarify. Before inserting your table, you must set your
preferences to include table accessibility options. Keep in mind that not
all browsers interpret options consistently; the way captions appear may
vary depending on the browser and version.
Setting Table Accessibility Options
-
From the Edit menu, select
Preferences...
The Preferences dialog box appears.
-
From the Category list, select
Accessibility
-
Select Tables
-
Click OK
Inserting a Table with a Caption and Summary
A caption appears above the table and can be
used to help explain the table's content. The summary does not appear to
typical users; it is read by a screen reader when vision-impared users visit
the page. These are especially important when the table presents statistics
or mostly numerical data.
-
From the Insert menu, select Table
OR
From the Insert bar, on the Common tab, click
INSERT TABLE

The Insert Table dialog box appears.
-
Complete the Insert Table dialog box appropriately
-
Click OK
The Accessibility Options for Tables dialog box appears.
-
In the Caption text box, type the desired caption
for your table
- In the Summary text box, type the desired
summary for your table
Example: This table compares
average monthly rain fall during 1993 in Eau Claire. June had the most,
with 8.12 inches.
-
Click OK
The table is inserted with the caption above it.
